Ancient Bete statues are few in number. The Bete form a people on the left bank of the Sassandra river south west of Ivory Coast, between the Akan of Ghana and the Ghouro to the north and great hunters and warriors.
The ancient Bete statues with their round and flat faces, robust bodies also represent supernatural powers and are also used for divination.
