Warrior and wife
These ancestor wooden carved statues, characterizing the African art of the Grassland plateau of Cameroon, late XIX°. This figure subject presents the tribal warrior, back from battle accompanied by his family, with a knife and a human head which symbolized victory. The female figure is carrying a child.

This work of art comes from the Babanki region, north-west province of Cameroon. The Grassland is made of several ethnic groups, Tikar, Widekum, Bamoun, Chamba, and Bamileke, centralized chiefdoms or Fon’s, based on customary laws, secret societies, organized around the Fon (kingdom).
